COL. STANLEY MALCOLM BOONE USAR (Ret)
\n Passed away on Saturday the 15th of January 2011, at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
\nStanley Boone was born in Wahiawa, Hawaii on Jan 3, 1926, the son of Rev. Byron Douglas Boone and Elsie Miyoko (Norimoto) Boone and grew up in the Kapahulu area of Honolulu with a passion for surfing and airplanes. He began taking private pilot flight lessons at Rogers Field in July 1941. He graduated from Roosevelt High School (Class of 1943), and briefly attended the University of Hawaii, before enlisting in the U.S. Army in April 1945. He was disappointed that as an AJA (American of Japanese Ancestry) he was not able to become a military pilot.
\nHe attended basic training at Camp Livingston, Louisiana and Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was sent overseas to Italy, where he served as a Platoon Leader with Company C of the 351st Regiment, 88thInfantry Division. He served as an outpost commander on the “Morgan Line” in the Trieste area during the opening moments of the Cold War. He left active duty in 1947 and returned home to Honolulu.
\nLater that year he entered Seattle Pacific College in Seattle where he met his wife, Anne (Lingerfelt) Boone. He received his Bachelors Degree in Economics in June, 1950 and went to work for the Boeing Company.
\nHe was recalled to active duty in March 1951 to serve during the Korean War. Already having a private pilot license, he was this time assigned as an aviator and sent directly to advanced flight training. He went on to fly L-19 “Bird Dogs” with the 1st Cavalry Division. While serving in Korea he was awarded an Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After leaving active duty he served in the Army Reserve another 25 years, retiring as a Colonel in 1977.
\nFollowing the Korean War he returned to Seattle Pacific College where he earned his teaching degree. He taught in the Shoreline School District near Seattle, a job he loved for 32 years, until he retired. During that time he earned his Masters Degree from Seattle Pacific College and his PhD in Education from the University of Washington. He taught every level from 4th grade through graduate classes in Education. He retired from teaching in 1986 and returned home to Hawaii for good this time.
\nHe loved and was very much loved by his family. He is survived by his wife, Anne, his four sons (Richard, Stanley, Daniel, and David), their wives (Louise, Linda, Anne, and Kim), 10 grandchildren (Kathryn; Jennifer, David, Stanley; Rachel, Sean, Ryan, Trevor; Sarah, Wesley) and one great grandchild (Jon), with another great grandchild (Kaiden) soon to arrive.
