She and Hawaii's honorable Senator Patsy Mink were classmates at Maui High School.  Mom was fifteen years old when she met our dad, Basilio Miniano Pidot. They moved to Maunaloa, Molokai where their nine children were born and raised.   Mom diligently shared the responsibilities of raising a large family. She was a cashier\/clerk at Y.K. Yuen, the only grocery store in Maunaloa which was better known as Friendly Market in later years. She then chose to work in Libby McNeil & Libby's pineapple fields and was eventually promoted to become Dole Company's first wahine luna in Maunaloa. After a serious hand injury Mom worked in Dole's pineapple research lab where the prized Maui Gold hybrid pineapple was discovered.  Mom taught Catechism, was a Cub Scout den mother, a member of the Maunaloa Filipino Community Council, a kupuna at Maunaloa Elementary School, and also a member of Halau O Kawananakoa Hale O Na Alii O Hawaii.  Hobbies included gardening, crocheting, and creating Hawaiian jewelry. She often gifted others with her crafts and plants. Mom was also a student of Papa Henry Awae, Hilo's renown Kahuna La'au Lapa'au.  In 1992 Mom retired as a hostess for the Molokai Sheraton Hotel where she was once recognized as Employee of the Year. She enjoyed greeting everyone and perceived Aloha to be synonymous with being hospitable. Mom embraced kindness, kinship, and community. She listened well and believed everyone had a unique story to share.  \"Keep on loving each other as brothers. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so some people have entertained angels without knowing it.\" Hebrews 13: 1-2.  Survivors include nine children: Barbara Guffey (Tony Jones), Charlene Pidot-Buchner (Lawrence), Robert (Bobbie), Edward (Belinda), Lorena Horcajo (Egon), Tanya Andrews, Jeffrey (Rose), Wendell (Polly), and Leora Prussing; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grand- children, 8+ great-great grandchildren and two sisters, Blossom DeSilva (Casey) and Kuuleilani Joslin. Mom was preceded in death by brothers Deason and Lewellyn Baybayan.  Memorial service and Mass on Saturday, 9\/1\/18 at St. Damien's Catholic Church in Kaunakakai, Molokai.
