Chefs, Golfers Team Up To Fund Hawaii Culinary Arts Education

The 14th Hawaii Culinary Education Foundation Charity Golf Tournament April 23 at Kapolei Golf Course raised $35,000 for culinary education.

The tournament was a daylong celebration that drew in noted chefs, farmers and members of the beverage/hospitality industry to support the cause.

The Hawaii Culinary Education Foundation is a nonprofit that recognizes the significant contribution of the culinary industry to the local economy and is dedicated to championing Hawaii’s unique culinary traditions.

The tournament is the foundation’s primary fundraiser and helps the it sponsor culinary projects throughout the state.

The foundation has supported programs that bring local, Mainland and international chefs into the classroom in order to present intensive learning experiences for culinary/chef instructors and culinary students.

The golf tournament was presented by Young’s Market Company and American Express and was coordinated by Foundation board members Philana Bouvier of Young’s Market Company of Hawaii and Tom Mullen of American Express.

Participating Hawaii restaurants included Sam Choy’s Breakfast Lunch and Crab, Tango Contemporary Cafe, Murphy’s Bar & Grill, Sidestreet on da Strip, Jose’s Mexican Cafe & Cantina, Chai’s Island Bistro, Cakeworks, Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar, and Roy’s Ko Olina.
