West Oahu resident Jordan Salud\u2019s upbringing was so intertwined with sports that you could make the argument that he practically learned to count by watching a scoreboard. His passion for sports was also fueled by observing his father, professional boxer Jesus \u201cThe Hawaiian Punch\u201d Salud.<\/p>\n

Boxing was off-limits to Jordan, however.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad thought boxing was a rough sport and didn\u2019t want me to be a boxer, so I played almost everything else,\u201d said Salud,<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

who has played baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey and football. \u201cI excelled mostly in soccer and basketball.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jordan\u2019s adult life has been filled with time well spent in the entertainment industry, as he has become a popular musical artist, songwriter, composer and in-demand master of ceremonies, as well as a for- mer DJ on 102.7 The Bomb. It was only a matter of time before he would find his way back to sports \u2014 this time in broadcasting. Salud, whose stage name is I.A., is currently the public address announc- er for Nanakuli home basketball games. His latest foray into sports broad- casting is as the host of the new TV show for OC16 called Hawaii Prep GameWeek. As the 2012 prep football season is set to begin, I.A. recently took some time away from his busy schedule to visit with MidWeek\u2019s West Oahu Islander.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What is your earliest sports-related memory?<\/strong>
\nProbably going into the ring with my dad after he won his first championship at The (Los Angeles) Forum. I remember the atmosphere and the cele- bration. (L.A. Lakers owner) Jerry Buss was there, and there were a lot of other celebrities. It was a bit much for a 5-year- old.<\/p>\n

Who\u2019s had the biggest impact on you in your life?<\/strong>
\nI\u2019d have to say my son (6-year-old Izayah). He\u2019s humbled me. I\u2019 m more serious now about every- thing I do now. He makes me want to achieve more and be a good role model for him.<\/p>\n

What made you want to branch out into sports broadcasting?<\/strong>
\nI wanted to expand my potential. I always wanted to be on camera and be part of something that I\u2019 m passionate about.<\/p>\n

What is your least favorite household chore?<\/strong>
\nDoing the laundry. I hate doing the laundry.<\/p>\n

What movie could you watch over and over?<\/strong>
\nThe Goonies and The Sandlot. They never get old.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the most memorable sporting event you\u2019ve ever watched?<\/strong>
\nIt has to be Michael Jordan taking his last shot (for the Chicago Bulls) over the outstretched hand of Bryan Russell (of the Utah Jazz) in (Game 6 of) the 1997 NBA Finals. His posture after the shot was epic and that shot was how they won the cham- pionship.<\/p>\n

Who is your favorite musical artist?<\/strong>
\nJay-Z and Michael Jackson.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

How to do like to spend your free time?<\/strong>
\nI like spending time with my family, playing sports, working on new music, and I also coach my son\u2019s sports teams. He plays football, soccer and baseball.<\/p>\n
