With a second-place finish in the OIA girls bowling finals last October, Kalaheo\u2019s Kristi Sakaguchi set the bar high for herself with two years of eligibility still remaining.<\/p>\n

Kristi Sakaguchi<\/p><\/div>\n

Now a junior, she\u2019s off to another solid start. A month into the season, her three-game-high of 488 (total pin fall) is tops among OIA competitors to date. Sakaguchi recently took some time away from the bowling alley and her studies to visit with MidWeek\u2019s Windward Islander<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Who has had the biggest impact on your life?<\/strong> My parents (Carolyn and Harry). I\u2019m grateful for the fact that they\u2019ve always supported me in everything I\u2019ve done, and I understand that not all kids have that kind of support.<\/p>\n

What is your earliest sports-related memory?<\/strong> When I was 5 or 6,I was in a commercial for Pali Lanes (bowling alley). I hadn\u2019t even remembered doing the commercial until I watched myself on TV. It was weird.<\/p>\n

How would you assess the 2012 season so far?<\/strong> As a team,we have a chance to make it to states, but even if we don\u2019t, it has been nice meeting all of these people. We\u2019re competitive, but we\u2019re pretty humble about it. I appreciate that, and I think that spirit will help us go far. I believe in this team.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What\u2019s the most important thing you\u2019ve learned through athletics?<\/strong> To always stay positive. I\u2019m pretty sure it\u2019s this way in all sports, but I\u2019ve definitely learned that if I don\u2019t believe in myself, I won\u2019t do well.<\/p>\n

Who is Kalaheo\u2019s hardest worker \u2014 the girl who gives 110 percent at all times?<\/strong> We have a new team captain, Pauline Gachalian, who is the most humble person on our team. She always makes sure her efforts benefit the team, and she brings energy and a happy spirit to the rest of us. I\u2019m glad she was chosen; she makes it fun.<\/p>\n

What Internet site do you frequent the most?<\/strong> Probably Facebook.<\/p>\n

What is your least-favorite household chore?<\/strong> To be honest, I don\u2019t have any chores, but I\u2019d have to say making my bed. It\u2019s my bed, and I ought to be able to do anything I want with it.<\/p>\n

What movie could you watch over and over?<\/strong> Any classic Disney movie for me.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s on your iPod?<\/strong> A variety of stuff. I\u2019m a dancer, so I have a wide range of stuff \u2014 whatever has a good beat.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Do you play video games?<\/strong> What are your favorites? Yes, I do. I\u2019m an XBOX kid, although lately I\u2019ve been playing computer games. I play a lot of \u2018First Person Shooters.\u2019<\/p>\n

If you could have your pick, what celebrity would you choose as your prom date?<\/strong> Probably a Korean pop star.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re stuck on Kahoolawe and can have an endless supply of just one food.
