Alice has been tripping down a rabbit hole into Wonderland and Stepping Through the Looking Glass in books, on stage and in film through the years, and she’ll be at it again Nov. 9 through 17 in Leeward Community College Theatre’s novel production.<\/p>\n

LCC presents Alice in Wonderland <\/I>as a metaphorical representation of an adolescent anxiously approaching adulthood, and will play it as though the audience is peering into Alice’s dreamworld.<\/p>\n

“One of the design concepts is that the audience is seeing into Alice’s mind, so the stage will be cluttered with all sorts of things,” said theater manager Joe Patti. “The actors won’t bring anything on, but will rather find what they need in the piles on stage.”<\/p>\n

The talents of 35 actors, as well as a TV screen, puppets, performances by a student music ensemble, and of course, a fearsome Jabberwock will all help depict Alice’s struggle as she wavers between enjoying the benefits of youth and the excitement of growing into maturity – with all the confusion inherent in that struggle.<\/p>\n

To Alice, adults seem to understand each other, yet what they say and do often seems nonsensical and inconsistent.<\/p>\n

Unable to crawl back up the rabbit hole, however, she has no choice but to move forward.<\/p>\n

The production is directed by Leeward Community College drama professor Betty Burdick, accompanied by the renowned artistry of Cocoa Chandelier and John Signor contributing to costume design, and musical composition and direction, respectively.<\/p>\n

Tickets cost $18 for general admission, $15 for students,seniors and military, and $10 for children under 12.<\/p>\n
