Student research at Chaminade was recognized last semester at the national conference of the Association for Biomedical Research and Minority Science, where five Silverswords accepted prizes in front of 1,600 undergraduate and graduate researchers from colleges across the nation.<\/p>\n
“Research is such an integral part of our curriculum and enrichment experience for Chaminade majors in biology, biochemistry and forensics,” explained Helen Turner, dean of natural sciences and mathematics, “and to see their hard work recognized at the national level is fantastic.”<\/p>\n
The winners and their studies are – in layman’s terms – Mata’uitafa Faiai (research related to insulin treatment), Mary DeVita (fresh-water mussels), Anthony Junker (fetal cell proliferation), Alyssa Dixon (thyroid cancer therapy) and Katie Shewbart (chemical compounds as inhibitors).<\/p>\n
