Beginning this week, West Oahu residents have a chance to watch high school students from around the state – including a number from area schools – show off their academic chops on the quiz show It’s Academic Hawaii<\/I>.<\/p>\n
Students will compete against other schools on a variety of topics, including math, science, history, geography, literature, sports, general information, current events and even Hawaiian language and culture.<\/p>\n
Now in its second year, the show resumed May 6 and continues through July 29. It airs every Monday at 7 p.m. on KFVE.<\/p>\n
“This is a wonderful way to highlight the academic talents of our students,” stated Gov. Neil Abercrombie. “We look forward to watching Hawaii’s bright and gifted students compete in this fun and educational television quiz show.”<\/p>\n
West Oahu schools competing are Aiea, Nanakuli and Waipahu high schools, and Island Pacific Academy (IPA).<\/p>\n
Aiea faces Iolani School and IPA May 20; Nanakuli goes up against Kauai High and Lutheran High May 27; and Waipahu faces Castle High and Saint Louis July 1.<\/p>\n
“Our goal with this broadcast is to showcase and acknowledge the efforts being made academically throughout the state in both public and private schools on all the Hawaiian Islands,” said KFVE general manager John Fink.<\/p>\n
