Three Windward sites will highlight a summer series of Master Farmer Workshops sponsored by Oahu Resource Conservation and Development Council for business people, farmers and the public.<\/p>\n
The workshops will run from 9 a.m. to noon at each host site and feature tours, farmer talk-stories, and details on how invasive species affect farm enterprise. Fee is $20 per workshop, and registration is due the Friday before each program.<\/p>\n
Descriptions of the workshops are below.<\/p>\n
* Kualoa Ranch, June 13 – Owner John Morgan will discuss beef production and pasture management, the ranch’s history and its challenges and successes. At the end, everyone gets a grass-fed beef burger lunch, prepared on site.<\/p>\n
* Hui Ku Maoli Ola, July 11 – Partners Rick Barboza and Matt Schirman will give participants an in-depth report on native plant production and landscaping, and everyone will leave the Heeia Valley nursery with a native plant.<\/p>\n
* Nalo-Meli Honey, Aug. 8 – Waimanalo beekeeper Howard McGinnis will share his experience with beekeeping and honey production, invasive pests and bees as pollinators; everyone leaves with a jar of honey.<\/p>\n
Partnering with the nonprofit Oahu RC&D on the workshops are the Hawaii Invasive Species Council, the city Office of Economic Development and various farmers and specialists across the island.<\/p>\n
