{"id":2907,"date":"2012-03-07T15:28:01","date_gmt":"2012-03-08T01:28:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hawaii.carpentermediagroup.com\/midweekpro\/?p=2907"},"modified":"2012-03-07T15:28:01","modified_gmt":"2012-03-08T01:28:01","slug":"help-share-hanauma-wonders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hawaii.carpentermediagroup.com\/midweekpro\/help-share-hanauma-wonders\/","title":{"rendered":"Help Share Hanauma Wonders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UH Sea Grant Hanauma Bay Education Program&#8217;s E Malama Hanauma Youth Stewardship Volunteer Program begins training Sunday mornings in March, from 9 a.m. to noon.<\/p>\n<p>Open to ages 16-21, the sessions will help introduce students to the staff, who will share their expertise in topics of Hawaiian fish and invertebrate identification, Hawaiian culture, coastal plant identification and proper reef etiquette.<\/p>\n<p>Students will then be able to share this with the nearly 1 million visitors who come to Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve each year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The program is intended to instill in them a feeling of contribution to the community, as Hanauma Bay is a centerpiece a conservation area,&#8221; said spokesman Gavin Iwai.<\/p>\n<p>Youth Stewardship Volunteers should have their own transportation and commit to one fourhour shift per week for a minimum of three consecutive months.<\/p>\n<p>Advanced registration is required.
