With four starters having completed their eligibility from last season, the Mililani girls basketball team finds itself in regroup mode as it officially begins preseason camp this week.<\/p>\n
For Trojan senior Zyriana Davies, that means seeing her role expand.<\/p>\n
“She’s ready for a breakout year,” said head coach Patrick Basilio, who led the Trojans to a 13-3 mark last season and a Division I state tournament appearance.<\/p>\n
Davies recently took some time away to visit with MidWeek<\/I>‘s Central Oahu Islander<\/I>.<\/p>\n
What is your earliest sports memory? <\/B>When I was in fifth grade, I began running track and playing basketball at Keoneula Elementary (in Ewa Beach). It was kind of scary at first. I had a really hard time. I didn’t know the people, and I didn’t know the concepts of basketball.<\/p>\n
Who has had the biggest impact on your life? <\/B>My mom (Justine). She’s been there for me since I started playing sports. She ran track and played basketball, and she tried to teach me stuff that she knew.<\/p>\n
What area of your game did you focus on the most this off-season? <\/B>My post moves. That’s something my coach always told me I needed to work on, and that I needed to be more aggressive.<\/p>\n
When did you know basketball was THE sport for you? <\/B>My freshman year was when I decided I wanted to continue playing and, hopefully, get a scholarship. I’ve gotten more serious about it my senior year.<\/p>\n
Which teammate plays the toughest defense at practice? <\/B>Mikaela Limper. Although she’s tiny, she really plays aggressive defense against the opposing team. And she has a high basketball IQ.<\/p>\n
What website do you go to the most? <\/B>Google. I use it for my homework and for looking up schools (potential colleges).<\/p>\n
What film could you watch over and over? <\/B>Love and Basketball<\/I>. I love that movie – and Coach Carter<\/I>.<\/p>\n
What item could you not live without? <\/B>My phone because I can look up my homework online. Our teachers sometimes allow us to use our phone to look up information.<\/p>\n
Who are three of your favorite musical artists? <\/B>Trey Songz. I really like Keri Hilson and also Chris Brown.<\/p>\n
How do you like to spend your free time? <\/B>I like working out, and I like reading.<\/p>\n
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? <\/B>Hopefully, as a pharmacist. My mom is in the medical field. She is the one who inspired me.<\/p>\n
What is your dream destination? <\/B>Jamaica. Everyone says it’s really pretty.<\/p>\n
You’re stuck on Kahoolawe and can have only one food. What would it be? <\/B>Spaghetti. I could eat spaghetti every day.<\/p>\n
