Kama’aina Kids’ A Day on the Bay, set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Heeia State Park, invites families to enjoy a day of fun near the water while supporting the He’eia Learning Center, which is run by the nonprofit child care center on the landmark peninsula.<\/p>\n
The event is free and will take advantage of the 18-acre park’s location with kayak races, sailboating, canoeing, a “Stand Up for Heeia” paddle board race, eco tours and other water activities, as well as local food vendors and live entertainment on two stages.<\/p>\n
Planned are a rockclimbing wall and high ropes course, Xtreme rides, arts and crafts, children’s games, a trackless train, jumper, and performances by Mailani, Kamaka Fernandez, Kupono, one cool love, Ashley Simpson, Po’ohala, Chinky Mahoe, Hui Kupono, Keiki Palaka Band and Ohana Palaka Band.<\/p>\n
“We’re delighted to bring this signature event to the Windward side that focuses on family activities for all,” said Ray Sanborn, head of Kama’aina Kids.<\/p>\n
Parking is $5 at the park, but free at Heeia Elementary School where a shuttle bus will operate to the park, located at 46465 Kamehameha Hwy.<\/p>\n
