Learning Kaneohe’s ancient lore and legends while riding in the Coral Queen glass-bottom boat could be the best way to retain local history.<\/p>\n

Ko’olaupoko Hawaiian Civic Club will share it all on its “Legends of Ko’olau” Saturday tours, set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 19, May 10, Aug. 16 and Sept. 13. All tours leave from He’eia Pier (He’eia Kea Small Boat Harbor) and cost $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 4 to 12. Each tour lasts about 1.5 hours.<\/p>\n

“One of our club’s major programs is to offer cultural awareness programs to our community,” said KHCC president Alice Hewett, “sharing the rich history and heritage of our area with residents and visitors alike.”<\/p>\n

Cultural interpreter Mahealani Cypher and Jerry Kaluhiwa, both longtime residents, will share their knowledge of Kaneohe Bay history, legends and marine resources with passengers. What happened to the crew that helped build Kamehameha Highway?, they might be asked. What of the sacred points, Kualoa and Mokapu? The fishponds? The stone canoes from Tahiti? – Cypher and Kaluhiwa will tell all.<\/p>\n
