School may be out, but eating is still in, especially at Central Oahu high schools. <\/p>\n
Food trucks arrive monthly at Leilehua, Mililani and Waialua campuses, where school supporters have discovered how to satisfy appetites and build up the kala for special projects. <\/p>\n
The schools are drawing between 12 and 30 vendors to each food frenzy, many of them from the surrounding neighborhoods and the North Shore. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Mililani High began its Food Truck Food Fest in March to support special projects, and it\u2019s added music by DJs to liven up the party. Trucks will set up from 4 to 8 p.m. June 5 (and most first Fridays). For more information, call 627-7747. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Leilehua High offers its \u201c2nds at Leilehua\u201d from 4 to 8 pm. June 12 (and each second Friday), drawing on many Wahiawa vendors. This month\u2019s event features chef Adam Tabura and crew with the Aloha Plate Truck, which won season 4 of the Great Food Truck Race reality TV show. For more information, call 622-6550. <\/p>\n
\u2022 For the Waialua Bulldogs, food trucks started as a way to support an upcoming Mainland trip by the football team. \u201cIt\u2019s a partnership with the community, and the school sells the drinks,\u201d said curriculum coordinator Lorri Sonan of the Food Truck Experience Fundraiser, which is open from 4 to 8 pm.
