\nNotice is hereby given that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and State of Hawaii Department of Transportation,
\nHighways Division (HDOT) propose a resurfacing project. This federally federal funded HDOT project is considered a federal
\naction and undertaking, as defined by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006).
\nHDOT proposes to resurface the roadway along Route 56, Kuhio Highway from Mile Post 8.04 to Mile Post 9.80, and
\na parking lot located in Tax Map Key (TMK) (4) 4-6-014:100. The proposed work includes reconstruction of weakened
\npavement areas, minor roadway widening, cold planing, resurfacing, installing new pavement markers, object markers,
\ntraffic signs, and curb extensions. All work will be done within the previously disturbed State Highways rights-of-way (ROW).
\nThe total area of the APE is 14.78 acres with widths varying between 50ft and 130ft depending on the ROW. The maximum
\nAPE depth is 5 ft. for signpost installations. Minor roadway widening will be limited to less than one lane width and a
\nmaximum depth of 2 ft.
\nPursuant to Section 106 of the NHPA, Native Hawaiian Organizations and Native Hawaiian descendants with ancestral, lineal
\nor cultural ties to, cultural and historical property knowledge of and/or concerns for, and cultural or religious attachment to the
\nproposed project area are requested to contact HDOT. Other individuals and organizations with demonstrated legal, economic
\nor historic preservation interest in the undertaking are asked to contact HDOT and share information you may have on historical
\nand cultural sites that you may have knowledge of within the proposed APE. We welcome any information within 30 days of
