Civil Service, permanent appointment. This position is responsible for planning and directing the work <\/font>activities of supervisors and personnel of the environmental health services programs of the <\/font>Vector Control and Sanitation units of the KDHO to <\/font>ensure the implementation of the environmental <\/font>health services programs on the island of Kauai. It is also responsible for the administrative oversight of <\/font>the environmental management division programs of the Wastewater, Clean Air, and Clean Water <\/font>branches on the island of Kauai.<\/p>\n

<\/font>A bachelor’s degree in biological or physical <\/font>sciences, sanitary or environmental engineering, or an environmental or public health related field from an accredited four (4) year college or university.<\/p>\n

<\/font>SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Three and one-half years<\/font> <\/font>(3-½) years of progressively responsible professional<\/font> work experience in the field of environmental health which required knowledge of environmental health services programs and the principles, practices and techniques of community environmental health and <\/font>safety. Such experience must have involved the <\/font>control of various environmental health conditions <\/font>in the community and have demonstrated the <\/font>application of community environmental health and safety principles, practices and techniques and the ability to analyze environmental health conditions in <\/font>the community and to assure compliance with <\/font>pertinent regulations.<\/p>\n

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of work <\/font>experience which involved supervising others <\/font>performing specialized work as described above that included: 1) planning, organizing, scheduling, and <\/font>directing the work of others; 2) assigning and <\/font>reviewing their work; 3) advising them on difficult <\/font>work problems; training and developing subordinates;<\/font> and 5) evaluating their work performance.<\/p>\n

<\/font>MANAGERIAL APTITUDE: Applicants must demonstrate<\/font> <\/font>possession of managerial aptitude. Managerial aptitude will be considered to have been met <\/font>through successful performance of, or substantial participation in organizing and directing a program; <\/font>interest in management demonstrated by the <\/font>performance of work assignments in a manner which indicates awareness of problems and the ability to solve them; completion of educational or training courses in principles which were learned to work <\/font>assignments; management’s observation and evaluation<\/font> <\/font>of the applicant’s leadership and managerial <\/font>capabilities; and success in trial assignments to <\/font>managerial and/or administrative tasks.<\/p>\n
