The Kaua’i County Fire Commission invites highly qualified, service-oriented, and motivated individuals of the highest integrity and ethics to submit a comprehensive resume of their educational and professional qualifications for the position of Fire Chief for the County of Kaua’i Fire Department.<\/p>\n

Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) years of training and experience in fire prevention and operations in private industry or government service, at least three (3) years of which have been in a responsible administrative capacity.<\/p>\n

The Fire Chief must be a citizen of the United States, must be willing to establish residence in the County of Kaua’i and upon hire, reside and continue to reside in the County of Kaua’i, and possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.<\/p>\n

Additionally, knowledge of national, state and county fire codes, laws governing fire protection and fire suppression, principles of firefighting and fire organizational structures, structural firefighting and wild land firefighting techniques, land-based, airborne, and ocean rescue techniques, ocean safety and public safety guidelines, and federal, state and county laws and regulations is desired. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public or Business Administration, and the possession of a current certification as a Hazmat Incident Commander and Fire Officer IV, Executive Fire Officer Designee, or Fire Chief Designee are highly desirable.<\/p>\n

The Fire Chief has significant interaction with the public and with federal, state, county, and private agencies, and administers, supervises, directs, and manages all daily operations of the Kaua’i Fire Department. The Fire Chief must be able to communicate effectively, must demonstrate skills in leadership and goal achievement, and must possess interpersonal skills that foster trust and establish positive working relationships with diverse cultural groups, the community, subordinates, the Fire Commission, peers, and governmental entities. <\/p>\n

In addition to managing the day-to-day operations, the Fire Chief will be expected to work with the Fire Commission and assist the Commission in the execution of its duties as prescribed by the Charter of the County of Kaua’i. <\/p>\n
